Looking for youth intermediate string players

    in Activities and Events

My name is Michael Lukman. My son(13) plays cello and my daughter (11) plays double bass. We are looking to put together an intermediate string ensemble/quartet that plays primarily standard classical music repertoire (Baroque to Romantic).

The plan is to have a 60-90 minute weekly practice at a home. We live in the Beaverton/ Aloha area and we are happy to host the practice, but we are open to having practice at other homes too. As far as performing opportunities, we might shoot for performing in December and in May. In the past we had worked with retirement homes to have students perform at the retirement home (such as during holidays). We probably can have the ensemble perform at some homeschool functions. Another idea is to record it to youtube (my kids love it!). We hope to start in October.

As a background, my son has been playing cello for 9 years and my daughter has been playing bass for 2 years. My wife and I have a master's degree in music, and between the two of us, we should be able to find the music suitable for the ensemble. My wife is a piano teacher and actively involved in the local piano teacher association. To clarify, we are not looking to form a professionally managed youth ensemble; my wife and I just want to make it possible to continue my children's musical experience in the midst of this challenging time. There will be no cost involved, except to buy the sheet music or other supplies. This will be an ensemble that is member-managed and member-directed ( both parents and children).

As a guideline, intermediate level is approx. Suzuki Book 5. Practice time would be on Wednesdays (or possibly Thursday) late afternoon/ early evening. FYI, we are not vaccinated and masks are optional in our circle. If you are interested, please reply or call/text me at 971-217-2313. Thanks for reading!
