The CHOC Talk is the moderated message forums for the CHOC Board. In many ways, the CHOC Talk acts as the "classified ads" section to the CHOC Board's "Yellow Page" directories.  Plus we also offer interactive forums to just connect with other Christian Homeschoolers.

You are welcome to come on in and check it out!

Click on  the  CHOC Talk  to go to our Message Forums
Hosted by Runboard.com

You may view our forums freely, pass information along from the forums (such as details about an event, just be sure to keep the facts accurate), and are welcome to make a post or two as a guest (see the instructions on the bottom of the CHOC Talk home page).  If you would like to participate regularly, please see the user sign up instructions below (scroll down to about half way).

On the CHOC Talk, you'll find these forums:

Calendar Talk a regularly updated calendar announcing dates of upcoming local events, services, activities and homeschool legislative alerts pertinent to Christian homeschoolers in our area;

Curricululm & Services Talk  a forum for businesses and organizations supporting homeschoolers to advertise their services as well as a place for private individuals to buy or sell, or give away homeschool curriculum and services.  (See posting rules below if you are buying or selling).

General Homeschooling Talk  a place for general homeschool support and advice;

Homeschooling the Highs Talk  a location for parents of homeschool junior/senior high schoolers to interact;

Our hope at the CHOC Board is that our forums will be a viable tool to bridge the communication gap between Christian homeschoolers and the myriad of information and opportunities available in our area so that those interested may help each other in our endeavors to homeschool our children in Christ.

When homeschoolers share their information with others, everyone benefits!

Please read the full page especially if you desire to post in our forums.

CHOC TALK USER SIGN UP DIRECTIONS

To post on our CHOC Talk forums, which are hosted by Runboard, you will need to register and verify as a user with Runboard (link given below in step #1). This makes you eligible to post on any of the hundreds of Runboard message boards, of which CHOC Talk is one.

After you've register with Runboard through the "Sign Up" process at the Runboard link, The CHOC Talk further requires you to then post one message on CHOC Talk to become an "official" CHOC Talk member

Being a CHOC Talk member only means that your account will show up on our administrator's list of members--That's ALL it means!

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL RUNBOARD OR CHOC TALK SELL OR GIVE AWAY ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!  We have strong spam preventions in place, however, if you are concerned about spam, many people sign up for a free Yahoo account for public forum-type registrations.  (Go to http://www.yahoo.com for their free email accounts.)  If you ever incur problems with spam that stem from our board, please let us know immediately!

Steps to Register--everyone who desires to register as a user and post on CHOC Talk should follow Steps 1-5:

1.   Either click on "SIGN UP" from the CHOC Talk home page or go to http://Runboard.com -- and click on "register."  Either way, you will end up at Runboard's account registration form. (Everyone MUST begin at Runboard's form to register).

2.   Fill out the registration form including choosing a user name and entering an email address. BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR USER NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS INFORMATION!  Submit the form. You will get a message that says:

"Congratulations, your account has been created.  Before you can log in your account, you need to activate it.  An email message with instructions has been sent to the primary email address you just entered..."

Runboard will send you an account registration confirmation at the email address you entered (be sure to check your spam folder if you don't see the Runboard confirmation) which will include an activation link.  (This step verifies you are a "real" person and not a spam-bot.)

3.   Look in your email inbox and open this Runboard confirmation email.  To activate your Runboard user registration, you MUST click on the personal activation link provided in that confirmation email.

After clicking on the personal activiation link, a message will appear from Runboard that says "

Congratulations! Your account is now activated, and you can freely use it. You have been logged into your account.

Your temporary password is #####   (note:WRITE THIS TEMP PASSWORD DOWN!)

It has also just been sent to your email address as a reminder. You can change it later in the Control Panel. (There is an optional link for the Control Panel in this message, but you don't need to use it unless you really want to change your password.)

At this point you could close that email, and then just go back to CHOC TALK  at http://b4himchoctalk.runboard.com and you should be logged in with your new user name all ready to post.  If you never click on "log out," you would always be ready to post on the CHOC Talk board anytime you came to the CHOC Talk site.

4.   To become an "official" member of the CHOC Talk board, you will need to post ONE message (an  introductory message would be nice).  Until you post one message, you are a member of Runboard, but not an "official" member of CHOC Talk board (remeber Runboard hosts LOTS of these boards).  All "official" member of CHOC Talk means is that you will show up on our member list with your user name and any information you gave to Runboard.  Again, NO personal information will ever be given away or sold by Runboard or CHOC Talk!

It is wise to post your first message shortly after signing up as Runboard periodically goes through and deletes those accounts which are not being used (ie not posting on any of their boards), so you'd have to sign up all over again.  Besides, why not join the fun at CHOC Talk?

5.   To post a new message, go to the CHOC Talk home, click on one of the forums, click on "new topic" or click on an already posted topic and click on "reply."  Type in your message (it is wise to click on "preview" before you submit in order to correct any mistakes or check any url links you may have posted).  Click "submit."  You will get a "DING" message that tells you that you are now an official member of the board if this is your first post.  Otherwise, you'll merely see your post and can click back to the forum or to CHOC Talk home.

Most people will stop here for registration/sign-up...however remember to keep your user name, email address, and assigned password from Runboard if for some reason you ever log out of CHOC Talk and need to log in again.  (You'll know if you do, you'll try to post and you'll get an error message saying you need to log in.  If so, just go to a "Log In" or "SIGN IN" option and fill in your username and password...don't panic if you login and the screen comes back with the same login page, Runboard doesn't change the screen after logging in it only notifies you if your login failed.)  After logging in, close that window and go back to the CHOC Talk home page, you will be ready to post again.

(OPTIONAL)

IF YOU WANTED TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD AND THEN POST ON CHOC TALK:

6.  Click on the link given in your activation email for the Control Panel for your Runboard account (you're already logged in to Runboard).  In your control panel, The CHOC Talk Forums will appear in a column named "Last Visited."  (Note the buttons on the top left...you could also take the time at this point to change your Runboard password from the temporary one you just got to a permanent one of your choosing--BE SURE TO WRITE YOUR RUNBOARD LOGIN PASSWORD DOWN IF YOU CHANGE IT!)

7.   Click on "The CHOC Talk forums" in this "Last Visited" panel.  This will take you directly to the CHOC Talk forums.  YOU MUST TAKE ONE FINAL STEP AND POST A MESSAGE TO ACTIVATE YOURSELF AS AN OFFICIAL MEMBER OF CHOC TALK. Otherwise, at some point, Runboard will delete your account for inactivity (ie, not posting on any of its Runboard message boards...so come on in and enjoy CHOC Talk!)

8.  Click on one of the Forum names in CHOC Talk.  Either click on "new topic" or click on a posted message to "reply."  Type a message (an introduction message telling about your family--how many kids, how long you've been homeschooling, would be very nice!).  Submit. After submitting your post to CHOC Talk, you will get a "Ding" message from Runboard at the top of your posted message telling you your post has just activated you for CHOC Talk.

From then on, you can access CHOC Talk through the CHOC Board link at the top of this page, or by going directly to CHOC Talk at http://b4himchoctalk.runboard.com  and bookmarking it in your favorites.

You could also go to http://runboard.com.  CHOC Talk should be listed in your "Last Visited" column if you go in through Runboard.  If you fail to post on CHOC Talk for a very long time or use your Runboard account, you will be eventually deleted from the Runboard system and have to re-register.  (Keep your Runboard user name and password if you ever want to change your Runboard account information or somehow have to re-login to Runboard to be able to post on CHOC Talk.)  We cannot help you with lost passwords or user names.  You would have to create a new user account again at Runboard or retrieve your lost password from them.

If you have problems, please email us at the Contact Us link on the sidebar, and we will attempt to help you.

BOARD, FORUMS AND POSTING RULES:
A few rules, and some legal stuff will, of course, apply to our forums and our board.  Please receive them in the spirit of helping us keep the CHOC Talk forums and the CHOC Board a safe, accurate, and enjoyable place for Christian homeschoolers to communicate, resource and network:

Forum Rules and Treatment of Posts:

Please keep all posts friendly, respectful, courteous, accurate, wholesome, useful to Christian homeshoolers, and mindful of Christian principles.

No flaming or spamming or fraudulent posting is allowed!

Please use wise internet practices regarding disclosing your personal contact information on the CHOC Talk forums as they are public information. The CHOC Board will never sell or give away any email address or personal information of anyone registered on its CHOC Talk forums to any third party. (The Runboard holds the same privacy policy).

Children should post only upon the permission and with supervision of their parents. (Runboard requires a minimum age of 13 for a Runboard registration).  It is not the CHOC Board's intent to provide a message board for homeschooled children but rather for homeschool families and homeschool alumni, so its purpose is mainly adult support.

Membership in the CHOC Talk forums is offered on an "as is" basis without warranties or guarantees of any kind including any sales transactions conducted on our forums.  You join and participate in the CHOC Talk forums at your own risk.  The forums administrator, CHOC Talk, and the CHOC Board, shall not be liable for any damages or losses which result to you from your use of or participation in the CHOC Talk forums.

Please report any objectionable posts to the CHOC Talk forums administrator. Posting is a privilege on our forums not a right.  Abusive posts or excessive business ads will be removed; repeatedly abusive posters or excessive business posters will be blocked.  It will be in the sole discretion of the CHOC Board as to what constitutes reasonable vs. abusive or excessive posting. Our word is final. (See provisions for homeschool businesses and businesses providing homeschool services below).

Abuse of the guest posting function on our board may result in the CHOC Talk discontinuing it.

Due to the nature of the internet, The CHOC Board makes no guarantees of any kind regarding any of the links on its pages or in its forums or the appropriateness of their content. If a Link is dead or, gasp, not what we'd or you'd expect, please Contact Us through the side bar to request the link removed.

Please do not cut and paste (or otherwise transfer) any copyrighted material onto our forums (simply refer to the book or source in your post or add a link to your post if the source site permits such links).

The CHOC Board reserves the right to copy, remove, delete, edit, revise and monitor all information and material that is posted in its forums without stated permission of the poster (your post implies permission).

If passing information along from another board, please make sure the other board allows such transmission, the facts are kept accurate, private information intended to be private is kept private, and that the information or material is not copyrighted.

Directory Pages and Help Pages Material Treatment:
The CHOC Board contains several different archive page types: directory pages and help pages.

The help pages are "Homeschool 101," High School and College Helps," and "Learning Group Ideas." These help pages are written solely by the CHOC Board. All downloadable articles authored by the CHOC Board which are imbedded within a help page, and the expository narration written by the CHOC Board on our help pages, are the property of the CHOC Board with All Rights Reserved.  You are given permission to print these help pages and articles off for your personal or homeschool support group use if you give proper credit to the author and the CHOC Board, print them in their entirety or keep the Q&A section within its intended context, and include the CHOC Board's web address.

If an internet link on a CHOC Board help page takes you to another organization's or person's website, please adhere to their copyright wishes for their article or webpage.

The CHOC Board directory pages are those which contain fact lists about the resources available to our homeschool community.  These pages are "Activities and Programs," "Stores and Resources," and "Handy Links!"  The information on these pages may be linked to, copied, or passed along to others in our community.   If you "lift" the complete page, please give credit to the CHOC Board for the entire list or simply include a live link back to our site.

Great ideas, helpful weblinks, and current information about homeschool resources in our community may be transferred from posts on the CHOC Talk forums to the CHOC Board's directory pages for use by all in our Christian homeschool community, Such transfer from the CHOC Talk forums will be at the sole discretion of the CHOC Board. (The CHOC Board retains the right of refusal to archive information or material for any reason it sees fit. It may not have been relevant, not fit the purpose of our board, was not verifiable or accurate, or any number of reasons not stated here).

Generally, posters on the CHOC Talk forums whose information is transferred to the CHOC Board directory pages will not be given personal credit in order to allow anonymity for CHOC Talk posters and allow the CHOC Board to act as a unified online resource directory.  If you desire to receive personal credit, other than your CHOC Talk user name, for your material (like a written article), please contact us through the side bar and place a request.  The CHOC Board cannot guarantee it will be able to archive your written material (as we were not expecting to become an online publisher for other's articles or material at this time), but will be open to considering it for archive. (Let's talk!)

While the CHOC Board strives to insure its archived help information and directory material are accurate, the CHOC Board makes no warranties or guarantees of any kind and is not liable for any damages which may be incurred by relying upon any of the archived help information or directory material on the CHOC Board.

If you feel any archived help information or directory material is inaccurate or in error, please Contact Us through the side bar and request us to review the information or material in question.

Provisions for Businesses and Organizations:

Homeschool businesses and organizations, or those businesses or organizations offering homeschool products, programs or activities are welcome to post seasonal or pertinent information reasonably periodically in our appropriate forums (either Curriculum & Services Talk, or Calendar Talk) to keep the homeschool community well informed of your current schedules, seasonal specials, or services.

However please do not use this as an excuse to deluge the board with free advertisements for your business or to troll for email addresses!  Excessive business ads will be removed, excessive business posters blocked!

If this free privilege of business posting becomes a problem for our private posters, the CHOC Board reserves the right to revert to a private posters only policy on its forums or to create a separate forum for business ads possibly at charge to the business poster.

Instead, if you have an ongoing homeschool program or activity, or a regular business or oganization that supports Christian homeschoolers in our area, please contact the CHOC Board to be considered for placement on our archive list on the CHOC Board site (of Local Stores and Resources, or Local Activities and Programs).

Availability of Forums and Board:

The CHOC Board and the CHOC Talk forums administrator make no warranty, express or implied, that access to the archive board or the CHOC Talk forums will be available at any particular time; that operation of the archive board or forum will be uninterrupted or error-free; or that any particular result or information will be obtained.

Future Actions:

Also while these rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure the CHOC Talk forums and the CHOC Board are not disrupted or abused in any way.

The operating rules and procedures of the CHOC Talk forums and the CHOC Board directory may change from time to time.  Such changes will be posted here.  Only the CHOC Board owners and its forums administrator may change a rule or policy of the CHOC Board or its CHOC Talk forums.

It is our prayer that the CHOC Board and its CHOC Talk forums will help to provide a vibrant, relevant, supportive, and timely homeschool resource network for Christian homeschooling families in our NW community.
